Program Aspects:

Shadowing:

Get up close and personal with the field. Our team helps to arrange times and dates for students to come to the office and shadow dental procedures. Students are encouraged to ask questions and gain as much experience as possible.

Personalized Guidance:

Embrace the uniqueness of your journey. We have partnered with Scrub Hub Inc, a dental non-profit to provide one-on-one mentorship for pre-dental students. Our very own Dr. Gray, founder of Scrub Hub, has multiple years of experience on UCLA’s admission committee and pre-dental mentorship. Her team assists students with developing admission timelines, forming efficient DAT study techniques, and reviewing ASDAS applications and personal statements.

Service Opportunities:

Give back to your community. Tulane Family Dentistry along with Scrub Hub Inc provide pre-dental service opportunities for students to participate in throughout the greater New Orleans area. True fulfillment stems from
a generous heart, and Tulane Family Dentistry believes in paying it forward.

Testimonies

Merlin says, “Dr. Gray and Dr. Shelton have given me more than guidance—they have allowed me to envision my future and actively pursue my dream of becoming a dentist through thoughtful planning, hands-on training, and intentional practice. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the impact of their work within our community and experiencing firsthand the tact, dignity, and careful consideration that define dentistry as a profession. Every day, I am inspired by the difference they make, and every day, I am reminded of why I chose dentistry. Because of them, I carry honor and pride in my decision to enter dentistry, and I am committed to honoring their legacies as my leader/mentor(s).”

Tyrolynn says, “My journey as a pre-dental student has been shaped in the most meaningful way by Dr. Gray and Dr. Shelton. From shadowing, to working alongside them, they have helped me see what dentistry truly is beyond the textbooks. Dentistry is about compassion, precision, service, and the ability to genuinely change someone’s life. Both doctors poured into me with their knowledge, patience, and real-world experience. They have taught me valuable hand skills and the education behind those skills. The doctors showed me what it looks like to love this profession with your whole heart. Watching how they care for their patients, run their practice, and stay committed to excellence made me fall in love with dentistry to its fullest potential. Because of them, I feel more confident in my path and more inspired than ever to become the kind of dentist who makes a real difference. I am grateful for their mentorship, their encouragement, and the example they set every day. They played a huge role in helping me become the person and the future dentist I am striving to be.”

Kennedy says, “Working as a general dental assistant after graduation under Dr. Shelton and Dr. Gray has been a truly transformative experience. From my very first day at Tulane Family Dentistry, I found myself in an environment that challenged me to grow while reaffirming why I chose this path in the first place. In the time I’ve spent here, both my interpersonal skills and my hands-on clinical abilities have strengthened in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I’ve learned how to comfort patients who are nervous, communicate treatment plans clearly, anticipate the needs of my providers, and work efficiently as part of a team. Every day brings something new to learn—whether it’s a clinical technique, a patient interaction, or a deeper understanding of how impactful quality dentistry can be. This experience has made me more confident than ever in my goal of becoming a dentist. Seeing firsthand how Dr. Shelton, Dr. Gray, and Dr. Russell transform smiles and change lives has inspired me to want to do the same. My time at Tulane Family Dentistry hasn’t just prepared me for dental school but it has made me truly eager for the opportunity to provide compassionate care and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”
